The flooding has affected nearly 1.7 million people across the state, causing significant damage to homes, infrastructure, roads, and agriculture. Authorities have established 450 relief camps to accommodate over 65,000 displaced individuals.

The Gomati, South Tripura, Unakoti, and West Tripura districts have been particularly hard hit by the rising water levels, leading to widespread flooding and damage to standing crops.

"Preliminary reports indicate extensive damage to physical infrastructure, agriculture crops, houses, and livestock," said senior local government official Brijesh Pandey. Landslides have occurred in 2,032 locations, with restoration efforts underway.

The incessant rains have also disrupted the agriculture and power sectors. The Indian Air Force has been deployed to provide aid to flood-affected areas, while the National Disaster Response Force is conducting relief and rescue operations.

Railway services from Agartala, the state capital, have been affected, and telecommunications have been severely disrupted in several regions. Educational institutions have been closed until further notice.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall in many parts of Tripura, with a red alert in place for the entire state. (ILKHA)
