Turkish central bank set to release interest rate decision amid tight monetary policy
The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) is set to announce its interest rate decision today at 2:00 PM local time.
Market watchers are expecting the bank to maintain the policy rate at its current level of 50 percent, following the previous meeting's decision.
Governor Fatih Karahan will preside over the Monetary Policy Committee meeting as the bank continues to grapple with high inflation. Despite the aggressive tightening cycle that saw interest rates climb from 8.5 percent to 50 percent last year, inflation remains elevated.
Economists' forecasts point to a year-end policy rate of 45 percent, suggesting a potential easing in the coming months. While the Turkish lira has shown some stability, the year-end USD/TL forecast has been slightly revised downward to 37.27.
The central bank's decision will be closely watched by investors and analysts as it could have significant implications for the Turkish economy and currency. (ILKHA)
