Türkiye calls for international tribunal against Israeli cabinet over Gaza genocide

The ministry’s statement on Monday condemned the Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for the continued violence in the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of over 40,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children, according to local health authorities.

"Netanyahu's cabinet should be held to account for its crimes in the Gaza Strip as soon as possible," the statement read, highlighting the urgent need for international action.

The aggression, now in its 10th month, has left a trail of devastation in Gaza. Since the onset of the Israeli military operation on October 7, 2023, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that 40,139 Palestinians have been killed, while 92,743 have been injured. The toll of the conflict has been particularly severe on civilians, with rescue workers and aid personnel also falling victim to the violence.

The situation in Gaza has deteriorated significantly, with vast areas reduced to rubble under relentless Israeli bombardment. A crippling blockade has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, leaving millions without access to essential supplies such as food, clean water, and medical care.

Türkiye's call for accountability comes amid growing international condemnation of Israel's actions. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has already accused Israel of genocide, ordering an immediate halt to its military operations in the southern city of Rafah. This city had become a refuge for over 1 million Palestinians fleeing the ongoing violence before it was invaded by Israeli forces on May 6, 2024.

As the aggression drags on, pressure mounts on the international community to address the escalating humanitarian crisis and hold those responsible for war crimes to account. Türkiye's demand for an international tribunal underscores the need for urgent and decisive action to bring justice to the victims of the Gaza genocide. (ILKHA)
