Iran warns of Israeli “deceit” in ongoing Gaza ceasefire talks

Iran's interim Foreign Minister, Ali Bagheri Kani, conveyed this message during a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, marking their second discussion within 24 hours.

Kani took to social media platform X on Friday evening to share details of the exchange, emphasizing concerns over Israel's actions in Gaza. He characterized the Israeli government as an “aggressive and criminal” entity and cautioned against trusting Tel Aviv and Washington in the ongoing talks.

“Referring to the aggression and criminal nature of the Zionists in Gaza, I warned about the deceit and dishonesty of the criminal gang ruling Tel Aviv and their most important supporter, the United States, at the negotiating table,” Kani stated.

Earlier in the day, the United States, Qatar, and Egypt released a joint statement describing the ceasefire discussions in Doha as “serious and constructive.” The mediators proposed a “bridging proposal” to facilitate a swift end to the conflict and secure the release of Israeli captives. The proposal reportedly seeks to narrow the gaps between Hamas and the Israeli regime, though it includes conditions allowing Israeli forces to remain stationed at Gaza's border with Egypt.

Kani further accused the United States of complicity in the conflict, citing its provision of weapons to Israel. He urged the international community to exert pressure on Israel to halt its genocidal aggression actions in Gaza, where air and artillery attacks have continued despite the ongoing talks.

The conflict, now in its eleventh month, has resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, with more than 92,400 others injured. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the military campaign until the “elimination” of Hamas, a goal that has been dismissed as unrealistic by both Hamas and some Israeli officials.
