Death toll from heavy rains in Sudan rises to 53
The death toll from the recent heavy rains that have struck various states in Sudan has risen to 53, according to the Sudanese Ministry of Health.
The ministry's Autumn Emergency Room reported on Saturday that the rains have resulted in 208 injuries, alongside the 53 confirmed fatalities. Additionally, the severe weather has affected 9,777 families across the nation.
Nine states have been impacted by the flooding, which led to the complete collapse of more than 2,000 houses and partial damage to over 4,000 homes.
Flooding is an annual occurrence in Sudan, typically happening between June and October. Over the past three years, these seasonal rains have claimed hundreds of lives and caused widespread destruction to agricultural land, exacerbating the challenges faced by the country. (ILKHA)
