The action was framed as a response to ongoing U.S. and British involvement in Yemen and in defense of the Palestinian cause, according to a statement from Yemeni Armed Forces spokesman Brigadier General Yahia Saree.

In the statement released on Wednesday, Brig. Gen. Saree detailed that the forces targeted the commercial ship Contship Ono in the Red Sea, citing its violation of a ban on entering ports in occupied Palestine. The operation involved the use of missile forces, drones, and naval units.

Furthermore, Saree announced that two U.S. Navy destroyers, the USS Cole and USS Laboon, were also targeted on the same day. The USS Cole was reportedly struck by several drones in the Gulf of Aden, while the USS Laboon was targeted with multiple ballistic missiles as it was transiting through Yemeni operational waters toward the northern Red Sea.

Saree stated that despite efforts by the U.S. destroyers to intercept the incoming missiles and drones, several successfully reached their targets. "The Yemeni Armed Forces view all American military movements in the maritime operational area as direct support for the Israeli enemy and will not hesitate to target these movements by all available means," Saree declared.

The spokesman called on Arab and Islamic nations to support the Palestinian people and resist U.S. military actions that aid Israel. He vowed that the Yemeni Armed Forces would continue their operations as part of their "promised conquest and sacred jihad" until the aggression ceases and the blockade on Gaza is lifted.
