Eight community leaders killed in Nigeria
Eight community leaders were gunned down in Umucheke, Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State, on Saturday night.
The victims were reportedly killed during a meeting at the home of the community’s president-general, Hyginus Ohazurike, who was among the deceased.
Imo State Police Commissioner Aboki Danjuma blamed the attack on suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and has deployed additional security forces to the area.
The incident comes just a week after gunmen killed five police officers and three civilians in Owerri, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the region. (ILKHA)
