Istanbul Airport soars: Europe's passenger and cargo leader
Istanbul Airport has claimed the top spot as Europe’s fastest-growing airport for both passenger and cargo traffic in the first half of 2024, according to data released by the Airports Council International (ACI EUROPE).
Turkish Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced the impressive figures, highlighting that Istanbul Airport outperformed major European hubs like Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, and London in passenger growth, with an 18.1% increase compared to pre-pandemic levels.
In the cargo sector, Istanbul Airport also secured the lead among Europe's top 10 airports, boasting a remarkable 32.2% increase in cargo traffic compared to the same period last year.
Minister Uraloğlu expressed pride in Türkiye's aviation achievements, emphasizing that these results validate the country's investments in airport infrastructure.
Sabiha Gökçen Airport, another major Turkish hub, also performed strongly, ranking second in the "Mega Airports" category with an 18.5% increase in passenger numbers compared to 2019. Antalya Airport secured fifth place in the same category with a 7.1% growth. (ILKHA)
