Iran vows response to Haniyeh assassination as UNSC holds emergency meeting

The session, convened at Iran's request with support from Russia, China, and Algeria, addressed the incident and its implications.

During the meeting, the United States and the United Kingdom accused Iran of involvement, while China attributed responsibility to the occupying regime. Iran's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, responded to the allegations, stating: “We will respond at an appropriate time and manner.”

Iravani condemned the assassination, asserting that it was part of a political strategy by the occupying regime to undermine the newly established government in Iran, which is focused on regional peace and stability. He emphasized Iran’s right to legitimate self-defense under international law and reiterated the commitment to countering what he described as crimes and terrorist activities by the occupying regime.

“The international community and the UNSC must not remain silent in the face of such heinous crimes,” Iravani said. He criticized the United States and other nations for obstructing the UNSC's efforts to hold Israel accountable for alleged massacres in Gaza and accused them of attempting to legitimize the violence against Palestinians.

Iravani stressed that peace in the region could only be achieved through adherence to international law and UN principles, denouncing what he perceived as an aggressive stance by the occupying regime against neighboring countries.

The UNSC meeting highlighted the ongoing international divisions over the response to the assassination and the broader conflict in the region.to the resistance were widely acknowledged within the organization and by all Islamic world. (ILKHA)
