The incident, which occurred on the Batman-Siirt Ring Road near the Organized Industrial Zone, involved a light commercial vehicle colliding with pedestrians returning from a wedding ceremony. Two children were among the victims.

In response, MP Serkan Ramanlı, along with provincial chairman Davut Şahin and other party members, blocked the road at the accident site this morning. Ramanlı poured red paint on the road to symbolize blood and emphasize the gravity of the situation.

"Enough is enough," Ramanlı declared. "We lost four citizens, including two children, in this horrific accident. For years, we have been calling for improvements to this road and better lighting for the median. Today, we blockaded the road to show that urgent action is needed. Fixing this road is not difficult, and we want it addressed immediately."

Ramanlı further urged all stakeholders, including ministers, general managers, governors, and supervisors, to focus on improving the road. "As HÜDA PAR, we are raising awareness through this action and calling for everyone to contribute to resolving this issue," he said.

After approximately five minutes, Ramanlı and his party members cleared the road, restoring normal traffic flow.

Criminal complaint against negligent authorities

Following the protest, Ramanlı visited the courthouse to file a criminal complaint against those found negligent in connection with the fatal accident. Speaking to reporters outside the courthouse, Ramanlı revealed that they had met with the Chief Public Prosecutor and submitted petitions for the investigation of all officials responsible for the road's construction and any related negligence.

"We insist on the prompt completion of this road," Ramanlı emphasized. "We are determined to use all legal means to ensure this road is fixed. We demand that all responsible parties, whether local or central authorities, be investigated and held accountable for any negligence leading to this accident. We will be closely monitoring this legal process."

The incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures in the region. While the immediate focus is on addressing the specific road in question, it also raises broader concerns about the prevalence of such tragedies and the effectiveness of preventative measures.

HÜDA PAR's actions have undoubtedly drawn attention to the issue. It remains to be seen whether this will translate into concrete steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The public's vigilance and the government's responsiveness will be crucial in ensuring that the lives lost are not in vain. (ILKHA)
