Afghan FM Mawlawi Muttaqi expresses support for Palestinian unity talks in Beijing
Afghanistan's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, has expressed support for the recent unity discussions among Palestinian factions in Beijing during a phone call with Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, Deputy Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, announced in a statement on X that Mawlawi Muttaqi had a telephone conversation with Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas.
The discussion covered recent political and military developments in Gaza as well as broader regional issues, according to the statement.
Mawlawi Muttaqi praised the efforts and sacrifices of Hamas, highlighting the importance of unity and perseverance in their jihadist endeavors, and reaffirmed Afghanistan's commitment to Islamic principles and values. He expressed strong support for the recent dialogues among Palestinian factions in Beijing, reiterating that both the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the Afghan people stand behind the legitimate resistance and cause of the Palestinian people.
In response, Ismail Haniyeh expressed his gratitude for Afghanistan's stance on Palestine, especially concerning Gaza. He also shared updates on recent negotiations with the Israeli occupying forces.
It is noteworthy that Palestinian groups, including Hamas and Fatah, recently agreed in Beijing to form a temporary national unity government following the end of the conflict in Gaza. (ILKHA)
