During a visit from Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati and his delegation, Al-Sudani called for an end to aggression against Lebanon and Palestine, stressing the importance of preventing further regional conflict and protecting innocent lives.

The visit commenced with an official reception at the government palace, featuring an honor guard review and the playing of the national anthems of both Lebanon and Iraq.

In their bilateral meeting, Al-Sudani and Mikati discussed ways to enhance the economic partnership between the two countries, including the bilateral agreement on Iraqi oil supplies to Lebanon. They also reviewed the latest political and security developments in the region.

The leaders addressed the issue of delays in the equivalency of degrees for Iraqi students, a problem exacerbated by health and economic crises in Lebanon. Both sides are committed to resolving this issue through ongoing government efforts.

Mikati expressed gratitude for Al-Sudani’s support in strengthening economic ties and reiterated his invitation for a reciprocal visit to Lebanon. He also praised Iraq’s role in fostering regional and international stability.

The Lebanese Prime Minister emphasized the continuation of economic and trade agreements, the expansion of public-private partnerships, and the exploration of joint projects, including the establishment of Iraqi industrial cities in Lebanon. Additionally, he affirmed Lebanon's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Iraq in combating terrorism and drug trafficking.

Both leaders agreed on the importance of finalizing preparations for the Joint Economic Committee meeting scheduled for the end of September. (ILKHA)
