Turkish Coast Guard rescues 85 irregular migrants pushed back by Greece

The incident occurred in the Fethiye and Datça districts of Muğla province, according to local officials

In Fethiye district, the Coast Guard responded to reports of a group of irregular migrants in a rubber boat off the coast. They successfully rescued 25 migrants who had been pushed back by Greek coast guard teams. During the operation, two suspected migrant smugglers were apprehended.

Similarly, off the coast of Datça district, the Coast Guard rescued 60 irregular migrants and 11 children who were stranded in 5 life rafts after being pushed back by Greece. All migrants pushed back into Turkish waters were safely rescued.

The incidents highlight ongoing tensions over migration policies between Türkiye and Greece, with Turkish authorities accusing Greece of illegal pushbacks that endanger migrants' lives. (ILKHA)
