Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized the move, claiming it signifies a return to "direct confrontation" between Russia and the West. He accused Germany, the US, France, and Britain of actively fueling the conflict in Ukraine and aiming to strategically weaken Russia.

The US maintains the deployment is for the improved defense of NATO members. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz welcomed the decision, calling it "necessary and important."

However, the move has drawn criticism within Germany, including from members of Scholz's own party. German Foreign Minister Boris Pistorius defended the agreement, stating the weapons are only temporary until Germany develops its own systems.
