U.S. announces $225 million military aid package for Ukraine
At the NATO Summit in Washington D.C., President Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy finalized a new security package worth $225 million for Ukraine.
The aid includes a Patriot missile battery, additional ammunition for high-mobility artillery rocket systems, and various missiles.
This marks the second Patriot system promised by the U.S. to Ukraine, to be swiftly deployed from U.S. military stocks. Biden highlighted this as part of a broader international effort, with Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Italy contributing to provide five additional strategic air defense systems to Kyiv.
NATO countries pledged increased military support following recent escalations, including a devastating missile strike on a children’s hospital in Kyiv that killed at least 42 people. The aid package also includes munitions for NASAMS, Stinger anti-aircraft missiles, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, Javelin and AT-4 anti-armor systems, as well as artillery rounds.
Last week, the U.S. committed an additional $150 million in military aid through expedited channels. Furthermore, a separate $2.2 billion pledge aims to support Ukraine in acquiring advanced weapon systems directly from American manufacturers.
The aid announcement underscores NATO’s commitment to bolster Ukraine’s defenses against Russian aggression amid escalating tensions in the region. (ILKHA)
