The proposal, which has garnered significant public interest, was submitted to the Presidency of the Parliament and aims to address actions taken by Turkish citizens involved in the Gaza conflict.

According to the proposal, the principle of universality as regulated in the relevant Turkish law will apply. This principle allows Turkish laws to be enforced for certain crimes committed outside the country, regardless of the citizenship of the perpetrator or the victim, and irrespective of whether the perpetrator is present in Türkiye. As a result, the offenses listed in the proposal could be subject to criminal prosecution in Türkiye, even if they are committed by foreigners against other foreigners abroad and the perpetrator remains outside Türkiye.

The discussion in the General Assembly will determine whether Turkish legal jurisdiction can be extended to prosecute individuals involved in the Gaza genocide under the outlined principles. This move represents a significant step in Türkiye's legal and political approach to international crimes and the responsibilities of its citizens abroad. (ILKHA)
