UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini has called for independent investigations into Israeli attacks on United Nations premises in the Gaza Strip. His statement comes amid ongoing Israeli genocidal aggression and significant damage to UN facilities housing internally displaced persons.

Lazzarini's call for accountability was underscored in a post on X, where he detailed the extent of the damage and casualties resulting from the attacks. "The school, in the Middle Areas, was home to nearly 2,000 internally displaced, and dozens of casualties were reported," he said.

The Commissioner-General emphasized the widespread impact on UNRWA facilities since the conflict began. "More than half (or 190) of UNRWA facilities have been hit, some multiple times, some directly," Lazzarini noted. This has led to substantial loss of life and injuries among those seeking safety.

"As a result, 520 people were killed and nearly 1,600 were injured while seeking some safety. Too many were women and children," he added, stressing the urgency of holding those responsible accountable for violating international law.

In his plea for a ceasefire, Lazzarini highlighted the prolonged suffering and deepening rift caused by the conflict. "The longer this war goes on, the deeper the rift will become, and the more suffering people will endure. Enough is enough," he stated.

The call for an independent investigation and a ceasefire underscores the critical need for international intervention and the protection of civilians in conflict zones. (ILKHA)
