Since the onset of the monsoon season, Nepal has witnessed a grim toll from natural disasters, including 34 deaths from landslides and 28 from flooding caused by heavy rains. Seven individuals remain missing following these calamities.

The torrential rains have also led to substantial property damage, with 121 houses inundated and 82 others damaged. The disasters have forced 1,058 households to flee their homes across the country.

In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' has instructed state agencies to prioritize rescue and relief efforts. Addressing a briefing at the Singha Durbar-based control room, he emphasized the protection of lives and urged vigilance among citizens against potential disasters.

Meanwhile, in flood-affected regions, the Gandak barrage has opened all gates due to rising water levels in the Narayani River. The flow measured at 440,750 cusecs prompted similar actions at the Koshi barrage, where 41 sluice gates were opened to manage the increasing water levels, as reported by MyRepublica news portal.

Prime Minister Dahal also called for cooperation among political parties, civil societies, and social organizations to mitigate disaster risks and ensure the safety of citizens. (ILKHA)
