Detainees released from Gaza describe horrific torture in Israeli prisons

Faraj Al-Samuni, one of the released detainees, described the harrowing conditions faced by detainees in Israeli prisons, particularly those from Gaza, as tragic and unbearable. Al-Samuni recounted being detained on November 16 from his home in the al-Qarara area, east of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, and transferred to the Sde Teman detention center, where he was housed in a tent with 30 other detainees. He detailed instances of torture, abuse, and assaults inflicted upon detainees by occupation forces.

Lawyer Khaled Mahajneh, who recently visited a detainee at Sde Teman prison, reported that detainees are shackled 24 hours a day, blindfolded, and some have undergone amputations and bullet removals from limbs without anesthesia.

The Israeli occupation continues to withhold information about the number of Gaza detainees and is accused of enforced disappearances against them.

Since October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have detained over 9,450 civilians from the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, along with thousands from Gaza and hundreds from territories occupied in 1948.

Reports indicate a stark escalation in torture practices, starvation, medical neglect, and forced disappearances against detainees, as documented by various human rights organizations. (ILKHA)
