Zelensky: Ukraine Plans "comprehensive" strategy to end conflict with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Kiev is preparing a detailed "comprehensive plan" to resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia by the end of the year.
Speaking at a press conference in Kiev following a meeting with Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar, Zelensky outlined his government's diplomatic approach. "We will work out all points of the Peace Formula and present a comprehensive plan that will be tabled for our partners," he stated.
Zelensky referred to the Peace Formula, a ten-point document introduced in November 2022, which demands Russia's withdrawal from Ukrainian territory, payment of reparations, and submission to war crimes tribunals, among other provisions. Moscow has dismissed the formula as impractical and divorced from reality.
Emphasizing Ukraine's dual strategy, Zelensky stressed the importance of military strength alongside diplomatic initiatives. "We must be strong on the battlefield because Russia only respects strength," he asserted. "A clear, detailed plan will be ready this year."
The Ukrainian leader's remarks followed the signing of a long-term security pact with the EU, committing the bloc to provide extensive military and financial support over several years. Similar agreements have been inked with the US and other allies, aimed at bolstering Ukraine's resilience.
While addressing concerns in Brussels, Zelensky expressed Ukraine's desire to swiftly resolve the conflict. "We do not seek to prolong the war," he affirmed. "We have suffered significant casualties and must present a settlement plan within months."
Official casualty figures from Kiev remain vague, with Ukraine disputing Russian claims of substantial troop losses. The Russian Defense Ministry reported 35,000 Ukrainian military deaths in May alone and nearly 500,000 since the conflict began.
The development underscores ongoing diplomatic efforts amid persistent military hostilities, shaping Ukraine's strategic approach toward achieving lasting peace. (ILKHA)
