14 killed in Nigeria as trailer crashes into Friday prayer worshippers
At least fourteen people were killed and several others injured on Friday when a trailer lost control and rammed into worshippers leaving Friday prayers (Jumat prayers) in Kano, Nigeria.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the incident, which occurred in Imawa town along Zaria Road in Kano's Kura Local Government Area. According to the FRSC's Kano Sector Commander, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the accident happened shortly after Jumat prayers when the trailer, traveling from Kaduna and bearing registration number MKA 537XN, veered off the road and struck a crowd of worshippers.
A statement from the FRSC Kano State Command said emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene alongside other security agencies to begin rescue operations and treat the injured. The statement added that nine of the deceased were buried on Friday afternoon, while the injured are receiving treatment at a hospital.
The FRSC also expressed condolences to the families of the victims and urged all road users to strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies. (ILKHA)
