Mohsen Eslami, spokesperson for Iran's election headquarters, announced on Saturday that Jalili has garnered 4,266,386 votes, narrowly edging out Pezeshkian, who has received 4,244,815 votes. These results have been counted from 27,938 out of 58,000 polling stations.

Trailing behind the two frontrunners are Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf with 1,385,83 votes and former Interior Minister Mostafa Pourmohammadi with 80,506 votes.

The polls closed at midnight local time on Saturday (20:30 GMT on Friday), concluding a 16-hour voting process. Over 61 million Iranians were eligible to vote in this election.

With the close race between Jalili and Pezeshkian, it is possible that the election may go to a runoff. Eslami indicated that if necessary, the runoff will be held a week later. (ILKHA)
