Speaking at a news conference in Yerevan, Mirzoyan expressed Armenia's readiness to finalize the document, emphasizing that Baku has yet to demonstrate a mutual willingness to proceed with the treaty.

"Armenia is ready to finalize the document of the peace treaty with Azerbaijan and sign it within a month," Mirzoyan stated. He added that, in his assessment, Azerbaijan has not clearly expressed a reciprocal commitment to this step.

Relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan have been strained since 1991, following the Armenian military occupation of Karabakh, a territory internationally recognized as part of Azerbaijan, along with seven adjacent regions, including Kalbajar. The majority of this territory was liberated by Azerbaijan during a 44-day war in the fall of 2020, which concluded with a Russian-brokered peace agreement. This agreement paved the way for normalization and the demarcation of the border between the two countries.

In September 2022, Azerbaijan established full sovereignty over Karabakh when separatist forces in the region surrendered. The latest developments come as both nations continue to navigate the complexities of achieving lasting peace in the region. (ILKHA)
