Türkiye records 232,401 new road motor vehicle registrations in May

According to the institute, motorcycles accounted for the largest share of registrations at 47.9%, followed by cars at 38.5%, small trucks at 7.5%, tractors at 3.5%, trucks at 1.7%, minibuses at 0.5%, buses at 0.3%, and special purpose vehicles at 0.1%.

Compared to May 2023, road motor vehicle registrations saw a 4.0% increase. The total number of registered road motor vehicles reached 29,791,066 by the end of May.

In the period from January to May 2024, Türkiye registered a total of 1,062,420 road motor vehicles, representing a 23.0% increase compared to the same period last year. The number of vehicles withdrawn decreased by 3.6% to 11,620.

Regarding fuel types, gasoline-fueled cars constituted 65.1% of registrations from January to May, followed by hybrid cars at 13.2%, diesel-fueled cars at 12.6%, electric cars at 7.9%, and LPG-fueled cars at 1.2%.

Renault and Volkswagen each accounted for 9.5% of new car registrations in May, followed by Chery at 8.6%, Fiat at 8.1%, and Hyundai and Peugeot each at 5.4%.

The statistics also revealed that the most common engine size for registered cars in the January-May period was 1300 or less, while grey was the predominant color choice, comprising 38.9% of registrations.
