Tragic toll: 26 dead, thousands injured in Türkiye's Eid holiday road accidents
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya released a grim report on Wednesday detailing the toll of traffic accidents during the Eid holiday, revealing that 26 people have lost their lives and 5,345 individuals have been injured in 393 accidents over the first four days.
In a statement on X, Yerlikaya disclosed that the previous day alone saw 693 traffic accidents, resulting in 4 fatalities and 1,302 injuries.
"I wish God's mercy to our citizens who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to those who were injured," Yerlikaya expressed, emphasizing the purpose of stringent inspections to ensure safe returns for holidaymakers. He urged the public to adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing the importance of responsible driving practices such as maintaining speed limits and wearing seat belts.
"Journeys are meant to reunite you with loved ones, not to separate you," Yerlikaya reminded citizens in his statement.
