Palestinian Prisoner's Society: 640 children detained by Israeli occupation since October
The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) has reported that Israeli authorities have detained 640 Palestinian children from the occupied West Bank since October 7, 2023, amidst heightened aggression against Gaza.
PPS documented cases of abuse and mistreatment against detained children, with approximately 250 still held in Israeli prisons.
In a statement released, PPS highlighted the alarming situation faced by Palestinian children under Israeli custody, detailing instances of abuse, torture, and medical neglect. The society noted that despite some children being released, many remain subjected to harsh conditions in Israeli prisons.
PPS specifically mentioned a group of children detained in Megiddo Prison in northern Israel, including individuals from Gaza, although specific details on Gaza detainees were not provided.
Recently, Israeli forces detained seven-year-old Baha Kazem Haj Mohammed from al-Mughayyir, east of Ramallah, on the first day of the Eid al-Adha holiday. Baha was reportedly released hours later but not before being physically assaulted, including on his hands. His family stated that Baha was taken while with other children and youths in the town center, and upon release, he was left far from his home by the occupation forces.
The incident has sparked renewed condemnation from human rights groups and calls for international intervention to protect Palestinian children from ongoing mistreatment and detention by Israeli authorities. (ILKHA)
