Iran pardons and commutes sentences of over 2,654 convicts for Eid al-Adha
Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, has agreed to pardon and commute the sentences of more than 2,654 convicts on the occasion of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Ghadir.
This decision was made following a proposal submitted by Iranian Judiciary Chief Gholamhossein Mohseni-Ejei.
Ayatollah Khamenei's approval comes in celebration of two significant Islamic holidays. Eid al-Adha, known as the festival of sacrifice, honors Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God's command. Eid al-Ghadir commemorates an event during the Prophet Muhammad's final pilgrimage in 632 CE, where Shia Muslims believe he designated Ali ibn Abi Talib as his successor.
Ayatollah Khamenei's decision to pardon and commute the sentences of over 2,654 convicts during these significant Islamic holidays underscores the importance of mercy and forgiveness in the Islamic faith. This gesture is expected to bring relief and joy to many families across Iran, reflecting the spirit of compassion and justice that these holidays represent. (ILKHA)
