Magnitude 5.0 earthquake strikes near Ts'khinvali, Georgia
A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck near Ts'khinvali, Shida Kartli, Georgia, early Tuesday morning, according to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The quake occurred on June 4th, 2024, at 2:03 am local time at a very shallow depth of 8 km. Shallow earthquakes tend to be felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface, resulting in a more intense shaking.
Preliminary seismic data indicates that the earthquake was widely felt by nearly everyone in the area surrounding the epicenter. Despite the strong tremors, there have been no immediate reports of damages or casualties.
