Building collapse in Istanbul leaves one dead, rescue efforts ongoing
A four-story building on Belediye Street in Istanbul's Küçükçekmece district collapsed on Sunday morning around 8:45 am, trapping residents under the debris.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. Remzi Albayrak, Head of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department, confirmed the recovery of one person deceased from the rubble.
"We have established contact with one survivor," Albayrak stated. "Search efforts are ongoing to locate another individual believed to be trapped. We will secure the area and deploy K9 units to assist in their search."
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül reported that seven people were pulled from the wreckage of the collapsed building, constructed in 1988, with injuries. Their current condition is unknown.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the incident, which remains under investigation. (ILKHA)
