Iraq welcomes UN resolution to end UNAMI mission by 2025
The Iraqi government has expressed its approval of the United Nations (UN) Security Council's resolution to terminate the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) by the end of 2025.

In a statement, government spokesman Basim al-Awadi announced that Iraq welcomes and appreciates the unanimous decision to conclude the UN mission on December 31, 2025. Al-Awadi affirmed Iraq's commitment to ongoing sustainable cooperation and partnership with the UN and its development programs in the country.
Earlier on Friday, the UN Security Council unanimously decided to extend UNAMI's mandate for a final 19-month period, setting the mission's end date for December 31, 2025.
Established in 2003 at the request of the Iraqi government following the U.S.-led invasion, UNAMI has been a political mission dedicated to providing advice, support, and assistance to Iraq's government and its people across various sectors. (ILKHA)
