In a recent interview with Sputnik, Sudanese Ambassador to Moscow Mohamed Siraj emphasized that the project remains on track. He described the facility as a "logistics support point" and highlighted the ongoing development of bilateral relations between Sudan and Russia.

"Sudan is committed to fulfilling this obligation," Ambassador Siraj said, acknowledging some procedural hurdles that need to be addressed.

This statement follows comments made by Lieutenant General Yasser al-Atta, a member of Sudan's Transitional Sovereignty Council. Al-Atta previously suggested that Russia had initially proposed a military base in exchange for military support. However, Sudan reportedly countered with a proposal for broader cooperation encompassing economic, agricultural, maritime, mining, and port development sectors.

The commitment to the Red Sea naval base marks a significant step in the strengthening of Sudan-Russia relations. The base, which will serve as a logistics support point, underscores the strategic and military cooperation between the two countries. As both nations navigate the procedural challenges, this project reflects a broader ambition to enhance bilateral ties and cooperation across multiple sectors. (ILKHA)
