Türkiye updates regulation on mobilization and state of war
Türkiye has published a new "Regulation on Mobilization and State of War" in its Official Gazette, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
The regulation, published on Tuesday, replaces the previous "By-law on Mobilization and State of War" that had been in effect since 1990.
According to the Official Gazette, the new regulation supersedes the "By-law on Mobilization and State of War" enacted by the Council of Ministers’ Decision No. 90/500, dated May 24, 1990. The decision aligns with Article 19 of the Mobilization and State of War Law No. 2941, dated November 4, 1983, and Article 57 of the Recruiting Law No. 7179, dated June 25, 2019.
The newly enacted 52-page regulation aims to establish procedures and principles for swiftly and effectively transitioning all state powers and resources from peacetime to a state of mobilization and/or war. This transition may also apply to situations of tension and crisis that could necessitate war, even if such a state has not been officially declared.
The regulation’s implementation marks a significant update in Türkiye’s legal framework regarding national defense, ensuring readiness and comprehensive preparation for potential crises or wartime scenarios. (ILKHA)
