Erdoğan extends condolences to Iran over death of Raisi and others
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan expressed his condolences via social media on Monday following the tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
On his X account, Erdoğan offered prayers, saying: "May Allah bless Raisi, Iranian Foreign Minister, and other individuals" who lost their lives in the crash. He referred to Raisi as his "counterpart and brother."
Extending sympathy to the Islamic Republic of Iran's religious leader, Mr. Ali Hamaney, as well as to the Iranian people, government, and the families of those affected by the crash, Erdoğan highlighted Raisi's contributions to peace in Iran and the region during his tenure. He pledged Türkiye's support to its neighbor Iran during these challenging times.
Previously, Erdoğan expressed deep sadness upon hearing news of the helicopter accident on Sunday and offered full assistance to the search efforts. He emphasized Türkiye's close monitoring of the situation and coordination with Iranian authorities.
As part of the assistance efforts, Türkiye dispatched an Akıncı uncrewed aerial vehicle and a Cougar helicopter to aid in locating the crash site.
Erdoğan had welcomed Raisi during a state visit to Ankara in January. (ILKHA)
