Helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi crashes in East Azerbaijan Province
A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi encountered an accident in East Azerbaijan Province, according to Iranian media reports.
Some of President Raisi's companions in the helicopter "managed to make contact with the center," providing initial updates on the situation.
The IRIB News Agency reported that rescue teams are actively working to reach the crash site. Ali Zakari, Deputy Governor for Development in East Azerbaijan, stated to the "Sharq Network" website, "I have not yet arrived at the accident site and do not have details about the incident."
Zakari indicated that the accident occurred near Varzeqan, noting, "There were three helicopters, two of which landed safely, and one of them crashed." The provincial official emphasized that the number and identities of any potential casualties, as well as the exact cause and details of the incident, remain unknown.
Iran's Red Crescent has announced that rescue teams have been dispatched to the crash site to conduct search and rescue operations.
