Ilısu Dam: A key contributor to Türkiye's economy

According to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the dam has generated a total of 9.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in the past four years, translating to an economic contribution of 31 billion liras.

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı highlighted the growing importance of renewable energy sources like hydropower due to population growth, technological advancements, and climate change. He emphasized that hydropower generation is environmentally friendly and doesn't reduce water quality or quantity.

Yumaklı commended the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI) for its contributions to the Turkish economy through water resource management and hydropower investments. He specifically mentioned Ilısu Dam as a prime example of such successful investments.

Looking ahead, Yumaklı revealed DSI's plans to commission 15 new hydroelectric power plants in 2024, following the completion of 10 in 2023. He reiterated the government's commitment to achieving energy independence under President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's leadership, with DSI playing a crucial role in these efforts. (ILKHA)
