Afghan helicopter crashes during recovery mission: At least dead, 12 injured
A helicopter belonging to the Afghan Air Force crashed in central Afghanistan on Wednesday while attempting an emergency landing, killing one person and injuring 12 others, according to the country's Ministry of National Defence.
The Mi-17 helicopter reportedly encountered "technical issues" during a mission to recover bodies from a river in Ghor province, the statement said.
The Taliban inherited a number of aircraft after the U.S.-led withdrawal in 2021, but it remains unclear how many and what types are operational. Mi-17 helicopters, known for their utility roles, have been recently used in flood relief efforts across the country. (ILKHA)
