Türkiye’s workforce grows slightly despite industrial decline
The number of paid employees in Türkiye increased by 2.6% year-over-year in March 2024, according to the Turkish Statistical Institute.
This translates to a rise from 14,839,534 employees in March 2023 to 15,225,128 in March 2024.
However, the growth was unevenly distributed across sectors. The construction sector saw a significant increase of 9.3%, while the trade and services sector grew by a moderate 3.5%. Conversely, the industrial sector experienced a decline of 1.0% in its workforce.
Looking at monthly changes, the overall workforce dipped slightly by 0.1%. This decrease was driven by a 0.4% decline in the industrial sector and a 0.1% decrease in construction. The trade and services sector managed a small monthly increase of 0.1%. (ILKHA)
