Officials from the organization recently met with representatives from Jimma University's Department of Ophthalmology in Jimma, Ethiopia, to discuss their upcoming medical mission.

Following consultations, European Orphan Hand committed to performing cataract surgeries for 200 patients. Dr. Kumale Tolesa Daba, Deputy Head of the Department, expressed her gratitude for the initiative. She highlighted the critical need for such interventions, with over 800 patients currently awaiting cataract surgery.

Limited resources at the hospital restrict them to performing cataract surgeries, making European Orphan Hand's contribution even more crucial. "You are doing a great and important job," Dr. Tolesa Daba said. "We thank you very much in advance."

While European Orphan Hand is prepared to operate on 200 patients, their representative Nizamettin Aygan emphasized the vast unmet need. He revealed that based on information from the hospital, nearly 1000 patients require cataract surgery.

"With the aid we've managed to gather, only sufficient resources are available for 200 individuals," Aygan explained. He expressed hope that philanthropists will answer their call for support, allowing them to help the remaining 600 patients struggling with vision loss. (ILKHA)
