Reports indicated Israeli military vehicles advancing toward the eastern border fence of Rafah, situated in the southernmost part of the Gaza Strip.

Rafah currently shelters hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals, who sought refuge in the besieged enclave amid the ground offensive initiated by Israeli forces on October 27 last year. Israeli authorities ordered civilians to relocate from northern and central areas of Gaza to the south, citing it as a "safe zone."

With an estimated area of about 65 square kilometers, Rafah is now home to over 1.5 million Palestinians, most of whom fled during the initial phases of Israeli aggression.

Displaced individuals endure harsh conditions within thousands of scattered tents across the city, with sidewalks and main roads transformed into crowded makeshift markets.

The Rafah border crossing serves as a crucial lifeline for Gaza's 2.2 million residents, facilitating aid delivery and the evacuation of the injured. Any Israeli military assault on Rafah threatens to cut off access to essential food and medical assistance for the population. (ILKHA)
