Death toll rises in Gaza as Israeli airstrike targets residential buildings
Local sources reported Wednesday that several Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on al-Jalaa Street in the city of Gaza.
According to the sources, Israeli warplanes targeted a house on al-Jalaa Street, resulting in the deaths of multiple Palestinian civilians and injuries to others.
Rescue operations are currently underway to recover bodies from the rubble of the destroyed house.
Israel, currently facing trial before the International Court of Justice for genocide against Palestinians, has been engaged in a devastating war on Gaza since October 7. The conflict has claimed the lives of at least 34,535 Palestinians and left over 77,704 others injured.
Additionally, around 7,000 people are unaccounted for and presumed dead under the rubble of their homes across the Strip.
Palestinian and international organizations have highlighted that the majority of casualties are women and children.
The Israeli aggression has also led to the displacement of nearly two million people from various parts of the Gaza Strip. Most of the displaced have sought refuge in the densely populated southern city of Rafah, near the border with Egypt, marking Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba. (ILKHA)
