Since the floods began over ten days ago, a total of 99 people have been confirmed dead, with at least 29 fatalities occurring in the last week alone. Additionally, over 60 individuals have sustained injuries.

The western provinces have been particularly hard-hit, with Ghazni, Paktia, Jowzjan, Farah, Nimroz, Samangan, Parwan, Helmand, and Nangarhar experiencing the worst of the flooding. These areas have suffered significant property damage, with homes and vehicles swept away by floodwaters.

Residents in Kandahar and Uruzgan described the desperate situation, with some trapped in stranded vehicles and others forced to flee their homes with their families. Farmlands have also been severely damaged, raising concerns about the livelihoods of many farmers in the region.

While recent rains have brought some hope for replenishing water supplies, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock acknowledges the devastating impact on already vulnerable farmers. Officials emphasize the need for assessments and support to help those who have lost their crops and income.

The situation is expected to worsen in the coming days, with the Meteorological Department predicting further rain and potential flash floods in several provinces, including Nangarhar, Laghman, Kapisa, and Kabul. (ILKHA)
