In his annual Eid al-Fitr message, Secretary-General António Guterres conveyed his wishes of "Eid Mubarak" to Muslims worldwide. However, his message was underscored by a somber acknowledgment of the challenges faced by Muslims in conflict zones.

Guterres lamented, stating: "My heart is broken to know that, in Gaza, in Sudan, and so many other places because of conflict and hunger, so many Muslims will not be able to celebrate Eid properly."

The Secretary-General's statement comes amidst escalating violence in Gaza, where Palestinians continue to suffer amid ongoing conflicts. According to recent reports, the toll of casualties has been staggering, with at least 33,207 Palestinians killed since October 07, including over 13,000 children. Shockingly, over 8,000 people remain missing, with thousands believed to be trapped under the rubble of demolished buildings.

As Muslims worldwide celebrate Eid al-Fitr, the festive spirit is tinged with sorrow for those enduring violence and hardship in conflict-ridden regions like Gaza. Secretary-General Guterres' poignant message serves as a reminder of the urgent need for peace and stability in these afflicted areas. (ILKHA)
