World Central Kitchen: Israel deliberately targets aid workers in Gaza strike
World Central Kitchen (WCK), a key provider of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, has suspended operations following a deadly Israeli airstrike that killed seven of its staff members on Monday.
WCK founder José Andrés strongly condemned the attack, stating that israeli forces deliberately targeted the aid convoy. He emphasized that the movements of the clearly marked vehicles had been communicated to the israeli occupation forces.
The airstrike hit a three-vehicle WCK convoy as it left a warehouse in Deir al-Balah. The convoy, which included two armored vehicles, was delivering over 100 tons of humanitarian food aid. The casualties included WCK staff members from Australia, Canada, Poland, the UK, the US, and a Palestinian colleague.
The United Nations announced a 48-hour pause on nighttime movements in Gaza to assess the security situation. US President Joe Biden condemned the strike, criticizing Israel for failing to adequately protect aid workers.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called zionist prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, expressing his deep concern about the "increasingly intolerable" situation in Gaza. Sunak demanded a full and independent investigation into the deaths of the aid workers. Additionally, he urged Israel to ease restrictions on humanitarian aid and prioritize civilian safety.
The American Near East Refugee Aid (ANERA), another prominent aid organization collaborating with WCK, has also frozen its operations in Gaza in response to the incident.
This event highlights the dangers faced by humanitarian personnel working in Gaza. According to the US-funded Aid Worker Security Database, over 196 aid workers have been killed in Gaza since October 2023. (ILKHA)
