Turkish Military continues counter-PKK/YPG operations in Iraq and Syria
The Turkish Ministry of National Defense held a press briefing on Thursday, detailing the results of recent counter-PKK/YPG operations.
Rear Admiral Zeki Aktürk, the spokesman of Türkiye's Defense Ministry, announced the neutralization of 27 PKK/YPG members over the past week. These operations reportedly occurred within both northern Iraq and northern Syria.
The Ministry's statement indicated that a total of 673 terrorists have been neutralized since the beginning of 2024. This figure breaks down to 280 neutralized in northern Iraq and 393 in northern Syria.
The briefing also addressed efforts to apprehend individuals attempting to cross the Turkish border illegally. Over the past week, a total of 109 people were apprehended, including two suspected members of terrorist organizations. Additionally, Turkish authorities prevented 2,109 illegal border crossings.
Year-to-date figures show a significant increase in apprehensions and prevented crossings. Since January 1st, 2,112 people have been apprehended trying to cross illegally, while over 41,521 have been prevented from doing so.
The Ministry also reported the seizure of 114 kilograms of drugs during operations conducted over the last week. (ILKHA)
