"How many more lives will be lost until there's a ceasefire? We are outraged by the killing of humanitarian workers in #Gaza. Safety is a basic requirement for the delivery of life-saving aid," Ghebreyesus expressed in a statement on X.

He extended heartfelt condolences to the affected families and the World Central Kitchen team, emphasizing the urgent need for sustained protection of humanitarian workers in Gaza.

According to a statement released by World Central Kitchen, the fatal attack occurred as their team was departing the Deir al-Balah warehouse after unloading over 100 tons of humanitarian food aid brought through the maritime route. Despite coordinating movements with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), the convoy was struck.

The victims hailed from various countries, including Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada, as well as Palestine. Their respective nations have called upon Israel to clarify the circumstances surrounding the attack.

World Central Kitchen CEO Erin Gore condemned the assault, describing it as an attack not only against their organization but against humanitarian efforts in areas where food becomes a weapon of war.

The tragic incident has prompted World Central Kitchen to halt its operations in the region temporarily, with further decisions pending announcement. (ILKHA)
