Istanbul Strait closed to ship traffic after cargo ship breakdown
The Istanbul Strait, a crucial waterway for global trade, has been closed to ship traffic in both directions due to a malfunction aboard a cargo ship, according to Türkiye's Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
The Ministry announced that the general cargo vessel SEA TURTLE experienced a rudder malfunction near Kandilli, a district bordering the strait. This technical issue has resulted in the temporary suspension of all ship traffic through the Istanbul Strait.
Authorities are likely working to address the situation and reopen the strait as soon as possible. However, the disruption could cause delays for vessels traveling between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. (ILKHA)
