European Union commits 5 billion euros to bolster Ukraine's military capabilities
The European Union has announced the creation of a dedicated fund to bolster its support for Ukraine.
The Ukraine Assistance Fund (UAF) will be equipped with €5 billion (US$5.4 billion) to provide both lethal and non-lethal military equipment and training to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
This decision comes amidst an ongoing meeting of the EU's Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels. The council is discussing the bloc's overall support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, which began in February 2022.
The establishment of the UAF signifies the EU's continued commitment to Ukraine's defense needs. With this new fund, the total EU contribution to Ukraine surpasses €138 billion, with €28 billion previously allocated for military support. (ILKHA)
