Turkish authorities seize 88 kilograms of smuggled gold in Van
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced the successful conclusion of "AYAR-2," an operation targeting gold smuggling in Van province.
During a vehicle search in Edremit district, authorities seized 88 kilograms of smuggled gold bullion of foreign origin.
The confiscated gold, consisting of 88 pieces of 1 kg each, is estimated to have a market value of approximately 215 million Turkish Lira (TL).
“We are committed to curbing gold smuggling, and this seizure sends a strong message. Smuggled gold bars worth millions have been intercepted, safeguarding our economy,” Yerlikaya said in a statement on X.
One suspect was apprehended during the operation. No further details regarding the suspect's identity or the intended destination of the smuggled gold were disclosed. (ILKHA)
