The move underscores Türkiye's continued opposition to the act and its commitment to Ukrainian territorial integrity.

The statement highlights that a decade has passed since the Russian Federation annexed Crimea through a referendum deemed illegitimate by the international community. This act of annexation sparked a major geopolitical crisis and continues to be a source of friction between Russia and Ukraine.

Türkiye's Foreign Ministry reiterated its unwavering support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The statement emphasizes that Türkiye does not recognize the de facto situation in Crimea, which it views as a clear violation of international law and established norms.

Beyond the broader geopolitical concerns, the Ministry expressed specific concern for the well-being of the Crimean Tatars, a Turkic ethnic group native to Crimea with deep historical and cultural ties to Türkiye. The statement pledges that Türkiye will continue to closely monitor the situation of the Crimean Tatars, ensuring their voices and experiences remain on the international agenda.

The condemnation by Türkiye carries weight due to its strategic position and historical ties to both Russia and Ukraine.  A stable and secure Black Sea region is a key Turkish foreign policy priority, and the ongoing Crimean situation is seen as a potential destabilizing factor. (ILKHA)
