Dujarric emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating: "We've seen these press reports. They're extremely worrying." He warned that a ground operation in Rafah under current circumstances would have catastrophic consequences for the people of Gaza and the Palestinians, exacerbating the already dire humanitarian situation.

Calling for restraint, Dujarric urged that any military action in Rafah be avoided, highlighting ongoing negotiations. He stressed the need for all parties to prioritize a cease-fire and facilitate humanitarian access, as well as the release of hostages.

Acknowledging the complexities of the situation, Dujarric underscored the urgency of finding a resolution to the violence that has afflicted the region.

Regarding the potential impact of a military operation on humanitarian operations, Dujarric expressed concern about the immediate negative consequences. "It's already complicated enough to do what we're trying to do in the current setting," he remarked.

Meanwhile, several countries have cautioned Israel against proceeding with a military operation in Rafah, home to over 1.4 million Palestinians, according to international reports. (ILKHA)
